Welcome to my safe non-judgemental sleep space

Hi, I’m Emily, Founder of Emily Sleep Consultant, a lover of the great outdoors, keeping fit and active, comedy and cake!

A bit about Emily...

If you want to be a bit nosey and find out if I’m a trustworthy soul then here’s my background, equally if I’m of no interest to you then feel free to skip this bit!

I’m a HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist (OT) with specialist knowledge in Vocational Rehabilitation (supporting clients to return to work with injury or illness). I’ve worked for the Ministry of Defence Occupational Health Service, NHS and the English Institute of Sport as Paralympic Lead for the Performance Lifestyle Team.

I’m a fully qualified Level 6 OCN Holistic Sleep Coach and Level 7 Executive Coach. This means that I get to empower parents using informed choice to guide decision making as opposed to providing old fashioned advice (leaving parents powerless once support as ended). As a HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist I have supported parents that have struggled with symptoms of fatigue, anxiety, and musculo-skeletal disorders that have impacted on their ability to support their babies needs and maintain an optimum level of independence.

As a mum of two young boys, I’ve experienced life in a sleep deprived haze since the birth of my first born. After 8 months of continual broken sleep and feeling stuck in a rabbit warren of dead ends, the battle of trying to resolve sleep issues independently had to end (despite my determined character and relentless attempts to try every gadget and technique available.)

It was after sourcing the help of a sleep consultant myself that the revelation happened, and my baby began to steadily sleep through the night. I was able to get back into my running, cycling, and swimming with joy and laughter again whilst appreciating my little boy more than ever before.

As a keen recreational athlete (that very occasionally competes), I have dedicated many years into supporting active parent’s just like you to improve their little persons sleep using my unique CARE (Communication, Attachment, Regulation and Environment) Approach which helps to address the cause of the sleep issue leading to a more sustainable solution as opposed to outdated traditional sleep training approaches.

Is your child struggling
to fall asleep?

The reasons for that might be...

What do you get working with me?

Introducing the CARE Approach

C

Communication – Learn how to best understand and respond to your little one’s sleepy cues

A

Attachment – Learn how to offer sleep support that nurtures and supports within age appropriate boundaries

R

Regulation – Learn techniques for self-regulation for both you and your little one for longevity in sleep health

E

Environment – Learn how to create the best sleep environment for YOUR little one and their individual needs

Just like baking a cake, you need certain ingredients that you know work well together to deliver the best tasting result. Using my CARE approach I use the best science evidence-based information to support each family that I work with.

These 4 KEY ingredients ensure that we are able to address the root cause of the sleep challenge, allowing us to shape a sustainable sleep intervention that considers the whole family.

I’m also a great believer in if you didn’t laugh you would cry so I especially love it when parents share humorous parenting anecdotes with to help lighten the load during these times of overwhelming emotion and exhaustion.

How does it work?

Holistic C.A.R.E. (Communication, Attachment, Regulation and Environment) program is a revolutionary way of helping infants and children fall asleep more easily, whilst avoiding the sleepless nights and headaches that many new parents experience!

Emily is a professional member of the Holistic Sleep Coaching community.

I CARE about each and every family I work with and will support you every step of the way as I truly believe that you can change your sleep situation with the right guidance and importantly, for you to feel like you’re being a ‘good enough’ parent because that is all our babies need us to be.

Are we well suited to work together?

Families that get the best outcomes with me are those that embody the following traits:

  • Determined but patient
  • Coachable and willing to do the work to try new techniques and do the work in-between sessions.
  • Able to trust that progress follows consistent action and that behaviour change is more endurance than sprint (which is well worth the effort!)
  • Honest about their wins and losses (I can help you much more this way!)
  • Respectful of time and boundaries when working together

When we are not so well suited to work together…

  • If you’re looking for a quick fix ‘sleep training’ type service that ignores your little one’s communication and involves a quick fix plan, then holistic sleep support is NOT going to be suitable for you.
  • If you feel you need someone to physically be with you to take over the sleep support for your baby or you’re resistant to making any changes.

“Emily helped us with our 7 month old son. He went from being up every couple of hours and only settling on one of us, to sleeping through and starting to settle himself! We are so grateful and would highly recommend Emily.”

  • Energy To Enjoy The Great Outdoors Again

“Emily’s advice has been a life changer. I really didn’t know what on earth we were going to do after four nights of our 6 month old waking every 1 or 1.5 hours. Within three nights we had a baby who was doing four hour stints and then over the course of the two weeks he is just feeding twice a night and is now napping far better. We don’t have ridiculous and stressful screaming and I feel like I know what to do when we have not so good days or life gets a bit manic and he doesn’t nap quite as much. I’m truly grateful and genuinely think this has prevented my heading down a slippery slope to some very low mood moments and days. Thank you so much.”

“We have an 8 month old son whose sleep went from bad to worse between the ages of 3.5 months and 6 months. We were reluctant to do any type of sleep training but with 6-7 wake ups per night, constant crying day & night and not being able to function and give our best to our son we gave Emily a call. From the very first call she gave us confidence that we can sort this out and can do this gently at his own pace. She took the time to get to know our son and his personality and tailored techniques to ensure he didn’t become too upset by anything we did and that we always met his needs first. Her constant support through calls and emails meant that it was easier to follow through with her suggestions.

Emily truly cares about what she does. She’s warm, kind, patient, non-judgemental (especially when you admit you couldn’t follow through with one of her suggestions when you’re finding it hard) and she’s just generally lovely and I am so glad we contacted her!

Life is completely different now! He self settles himself to sleep, loves his cot and has good quality sleep for all his naps and night sleep. We still feed him in the night if he needs it but otherwise he sleeps through til the morning if he’s not hungry. No more bouncing, rocking, singing, pacing, bringing him in to bed with us when he wouldn’t sleep in his cot. We are all happier for it and can’t thank Emily enough for what she has done for us.

It took lots of time and patience to get to where we are now but we have confidence that we can address what he needs and it gives us more time to just enjoy being with him. So if you’re thinking about contacting Emily, don’t hesitate! She’s fab!”

“My Daughter was irritable & over tired at bed time & waked during the night. So many people had told me NOT to let her sleep too much during the day as she wouldn’t be tired at night.

Emily explained the actual importance of quality daytime naps & suggested a nap schedule, as well as ways to ensure the sleep was of good quality & age appropriate.

Emily had a friendly non-judgemental approach and suggested very simple yet effective changes to our routine which were very easy to implement. She also explained some of the reasoning behind the changes, which helped me to understand the importance of naps.

After only one week of this new routine my Daughter slept through for 12 hours solid…and still does every night! Thanks to Emily we all get a good nights sleep now & are much happier. Highly recommend!”

“I can only describe how Emily has helped us as “life-changing”. I spent most of 2017 in a sleep deprived brain fog. I had a tired, cranky baby who I couldn’t get to nap more than 20-30mins at a time during the day, woke multiple times at night and was up at 4am everyday!

With Emily’s support and gentle approach to sleep training, my daughter went from co-sleeping and breastfeeding throughout the night (for 9 months) to sleeping in a cot, on her own, without any feeds at night! I actually feel human again and I have a much happier little munchkin. It’s totally worth it, I would highly recommend Emily!”
